Belpearl is a family farming business, which has been trading and designing
pearls since 1933. Belpearl is a mix of oriental and occidental designs with lebanese roots,
living between Japan and Hong Kong and farming in the most beautiful places
of Pacific. All ingredients was there to inspire me!
I’ve discovered with great interest the world of pearls, its history, its
big names, its textures, an absolutely fascinating world.
Belpearl gave me the mission to redefine the contours of their graphic
universe. For me it was a new kind of branding work, out of my comfort
zone. I was more used to dealing with the playful universe.
The Belpearl house developed both, collections of modern baroque jewellery
as well as more sophisticated and modern jewellery. The challenge was to
find a graphic balance between these two universes.
Even though the general aim of the brand is to develop more “modern”
collections, we cannot ignore the baroque heritage of the brand.

We will keep the BP monogram in upper case. However, I expressed
reservations about the dominant use of the navy and the pictogram with the
seahorse shaped shield.
The navy blue does not marry well with the shades of pearl, I have replaced
it with black, which is more elegant but also timeless. I have offered to
develop a range of complementary colours and patterns to illustrate the 4
large pearl collections that the brand is working on.
The graphic base language is an accumulation of lines similar to coral
structures.It gives an interesting rhythm, a spontaneous beat, a flow. We
will use these lines on all our patterns.

This study was the subject of lots of graphic research, here are some
drawings that I’ve developed but have not been retained because they were
too complicated compared to the minimalist and modern identity that the
brand wishes to follow in the near future.
